About Stephanie Vegh, Executive Director, Hamilton Arts Council

Born in Hamilton, Stephanie Vegh studied Art and Comparative Literature at McMaster University before leaving for Glasgow School of Art to complete her MFA. She returned to Hamilton in 2007 where she continued to create art, write essays an reviews for various galleries and publications in Canada and the United Kingdom while staying active in Hamilton’s art community as a past board member of the Hamilton Artists Inc. and Centre 3 for Print and Media Arts (formerly The Print Studio) and in her role as a member of the Supercrawl Committee.  She is a two-time recipient of an Ontario Arts Council Visual Arts Project Grant and the 2016 City of Hamilton Arts Award for Arts Management.

Both her passion for her hometown and her experience of Glasgow’s lively post-industrial arts scene fuel her commitment to the Hamilton Arts Council as Executive Director, since taking on the role in 2011. Stephane has implemented an organizational shift from arts programming to communications and advocacy, working to promote the works of artists and organizations in Hamilton while raising awareness around issues that impact their careers. Serving this mission involves juggling many tasks on a daily basis, from writing and speaking at City Hall to attending to the financial needs of this small-scale charitable organization to the more enjoyable task of providing professional guidance to artists on an individual basis.
